The #1 Problem With the #1 Drug In the World

11/8/2015

Statin drugs
FACT: The best-selling class of drugs in history rakes in billions of dollars every year for pharmaceutical companies, yet provides virtually no measurable benefit to over 95% of its users. In fact, the majority of users derive less of a benefit from this drug than the average placebo! Yet millions of Americans continue taking this drug every year - often to the detriment of their health.*

If you haven't guessed by now, the class of drugs I'm talking about is statins. I covered the considerable health risks posed by statin drugs, as well as detailed statistics (including sources and research studies) on their lack of effectiveness, in a previous post - feel free to check that out for more information.

However, none of these many concerns comprise my biggest problem with statin drugs.

My biggest problem with them is the same one that I have with most other drugs prescribed today, and for that matter, with the entire modern medicine machine...

13 Tasty Tips For A Healthier Brain

10/18/2015

Brain health
Brain diseases and disorders are one of the fastest growing health issues of the modern world. And while there are a lot of different factors that can affect your brain health, diet is one of the most important.

That's right, you really are what you eat - and your brain is paying for the sins you are committing when you eat a modern diet high in processed foods.

In fact, your brain is arguably influenced more (or at least more visibly) by your diet than any other organ. This can easily be seen by watching how a small child's behavior changes drastically after eating or drinking something packed full of sugar! But it's affecting you just as much as an adult.

If you listen to your body after you eat, you may notice that what you eat can affect your mood dramatically, and even change your entire day.
What you eat impacts the way you think, the way you feel, and the way your body and brain function.

We talk a lot here about the impact of food on our health, but what about your brain health? How can you eat to improve your brain's health, rather than diminishing it? Is there an optimal way to eat that will both create a healthier brain, and maximize your brain power?

Try these 13 tips, and I can promise you, not only will your brain be healthier, but your whole outlook on life will improve! (And perhaps best of all, eating this way is highly enjoyable and satisfying!)

4 Ways to Live a Longer, Healthier Life

Happy life
In addition to building a strong immune system, as we discussed last week, you also need to do what you can to keep your cells young if you want to stay healthy. While your cells die constantly, the new cells your body builds to replace them can either have "young" characteristics, or behave like older ones, which accelerate aging in the body.

If you want to live longer and have more healthy years, you need to take steps to keep all of your cells healthy. After all, no one wants to live more years if those years are to be spent sick and in pain, right? A good, happy life is more about quality than quantity when it comes down to it.

Here are 4 simple things you can do to live a longer, healthier life!

The Cure for All Disease?

8/30/2015

Perfect health
Last week, we discussed the fact that your body's natural state is one of health and wholeness. In almost all cases, any deviation from this state is a result of the choices we make, and the behaviors we engage in.

As a follow up, we thought it important to address the underlying question - just what is health? What does it mean to be healthy, and what steps can we take to achieve that state (if we have lost it), and to maintain it (once we have it)?

While there are probably thousands of factors that affect our health, luckily we don't have to address all of these different factors individually.

In fact, there is really only ONE main area which determines whether or not we are healthy, and whether we stay that way. If you can keep this one facet of your bodily systems healthy, you will greatly decrease your odds of contracting any disease, and greatly increase your odds of living a long, healthy, and happy life.

Just what is this miracle "cure"?

Gluten-free
If you're at all interested in health (or even if you're not), I'm sure you've noticed the proliferation of "gluten-free" foods popping up everywhere. Everything from cakes and candies, to pasta, tortillas, and beer can be found in gluten-free versions, and most restaurants now have many gluten-free options on the menu.

But is the "gluten-free" craze just another fad, or does it really mean something? How much does gluten really affect your health? This week, we're delving into the details to uncover the truth about gluten, and what kind of impact it has on your health.

Would You Say Yes To This Dangerous Drug?

5/17/2015

Prescription drugs
If I was your doctor* and you came to see me for a routine checkup, and I told you that you needed to get on this special drug right away because you have high cholesterol, would you do it?

Shocking as it sounds, millions of people would say "yes" (and over 43 million have, to their own doctors), without much more information than that!

Unfortunately, what millions of doctors are not telling you could actually kill you, even though this drug is (unfortunately) perfectly legal to prescribe and to take. So let me tell you a bit more about this type of drug, and see if you still say yes....

What if I told you this drug will lower your cholesterol, BUT the side effects include diabetes, cataracts, muscle weakness and deterioration,
debilitating joint pain, liver damage, drug-induced lupus, digestive issues including diarrhea and constipation, memory loss, and increased risk of developing Alzheimers disease, ALS, and MS? (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8).

What if I then told you that this drug has basically no tangible benefit to the vast majority of the people who take it, and that while it will lower your cholesterol, what it will not do is reduce your risk of developing heart disease, or dying from a heart attack or stroke?

And finally, what if I told you that this is one of the most profitable drugs on the market, and by prescribing it to you, I will receive a great kickback?

Are you still saying "yes"???

7 Anti-Aging Foods You Should Eat Daily To Stay Young

Anti-aging foods
We're all getting older. It's just a fact of life. But depending on your lifestyle choices, you can seem (and feel) a lot younger than your years! By living a healthy, balanced lifestyle, you can not only live longer, but get more living out of the years you have left.

How you treat your body, including what toxins you expose it to, what activities you participate in, how much sleep you treat it to, and most importantly - what foods you feed it - can really impact both the quality and length of your life.

This week, I wanted to discuss 7 common foods that are packed with some of the most powerful anti-aging nutrients available to help you maintain a healthy body and mind long into your senior years.

And I'm not talking about expensive, impossible-to find "superfoods" from some exotic Amazon forest here. In fact, you may be surprised to see some of the foods on this list.... (Hint: You probably have most of them in your kitchen right now!)

Are You Dying of Lack of Sleep?

Sleep
There is a seriously dangerous health problem in our society that almost no one talks about. It contributes to the development of many modern diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, obesity, and more. It increases stress, and decreases productivity. It makes you grumpy, short-tempered, and self-destructive, and can harm your relationships with your spouse, friends, kids, and co-workers.

The good news is, there is a cure. And best of all, the cure is totally free!

The bad news is, despite the "cure" being free, readily available, and around since time began, more and more people are affected by this deadly health problem every day. Don't be one of them! Here's how this problem affects you, and how to solve it.

The Allegorical Town of Allopath

Pills
I recently ran across this funny tongue-in-cheek video which really drives home the main problem with our current healthcare system. Yes, it's kind of silly, but it's fun too - check it out below.

With our health as a nation now trailing much less developed countries, while our healthcare spending is literally billions more than any other country on earth, many people may be wondering, why don't we have a better system?

Why is the good old U.S. of A. - one of the world's largest superpowers - lagging in this oh-so-important area?

Without getting all philosophical on you, or digging into the tangled web of political reasons (of which there are many), there is one clear answer that stands out, and which is illustrated brilliantly in this short animated video (watch it below).

That answer is...

US
!

Yes, we are the problem... And here's why:

The Surprising Truth About Calories & Weight Loss

3/1/2015

Meal
Hot on the heels of last week's "shocking" announcement about cholesterol comes another long-overdue gem of health insight - this time from the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

A recent article in the Journal announced that it is possible to get fatter without eating more, and conversely, that it is also possible to lose weight without eating less. (And no, this is not factoring in exercise.)

This flies in the face of approximately 100 years of mainstream advice on obesity and weight gain, which has only considered amount of calories consumed versus calories burned. In truth, like most things about health, the reality is much  more complex than that!

In fact, weight gain (and loss) has a lot more to do with the type of calories consumed, and their effect on blood sugar, than you may  have guessed. So how does this work? Let me explain....
